Viva Tierra Organic, Inc. , formally known as CF Fresh Inc., was founded in 1993 in Sedro-Woolley, Washington as an outgrowth of an organic produce sales agency founded by Roger Wechsler in the Skagit Valley in 1984. Roger's Brokerage became Cascadian Farm Fresh in 1989 when Roger merged his company with Cascadian Farm. The name of the company was changed in 2013 on the company’s 20th anniversary. The company's main office is located in Sedro-Woolley, Washington with satellite sales offices in Rye, New Hampshire and Camptonville, California. "Viva Tierra" is a Spanish phrase that can be literally translated as "Live Earth" or "Living Earth", but also carries an additional idiomatic meaning, more akin to "Long Live the Earth" or an exclamation of approval, such as "Hooray for Earth!" This sentiment embodies the company's philosophy and commitment to sustainable, Certified Organic agriculture and fresh, wholesome produce. The Viva Tierra Organic brand, established in 1993, is well known for high quality Certified Organic fruits and vegetables grown throughout the Americas. They also sell for a number of growers under their own labels, and custom pack for their large retail customers under their brands. Viva Tierra Organic, Inc. is the largest exclusively Certified Organic marketer of apples and pears in North America and the leading importer of fresh Certified Organic produce from South America. Their Certified Organic apples, pears and onions are available year-round. Seasonal items, such as cherries, peaches, plums, nectarines, and asian pears are available as well. Viva Tierra Organic Inc. is a highly regarded pioneer in the organic food industry. Viva Tierra and their growers share a strong belief in the importance of sharing their abundance with those less fortunate. Together, they regularly donate nutritious fresh organic produce to food banks across the country. Be it mislabeled, slightly damaged, overstocked or simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, they'd all rather these fruits and vegetables went to feed the hungry than go to waste. In addition to these regular donations, Viva Tierra Organic also makes a special effort to help people during times of crisis, such as disaster relief for Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. They organized their growers, storage providers, and transportation companies and successfully donated over 80,000 lbs of fresh produce to America's Second Harvest for distribution into the devastated Gulf Coast region.
