Software Developer

The Organic Box is an online store that connects our customers to local farmers and producers. We are on the cutting edge of food technology and we want you, a software developer, to aid us in building our services. We’re constantly striving to build better software that enables our team to be a leading force in the industry. Technology is the enabler of our business and we are looking for you, the right person to dig deep with us and make our infrastructure soar.

We are looking for a Software Developer ready to work on interesting problems. As a member of The Organic Box Development team, you’ll be a key resource in implementing solutions, maximizing efficiency, and bringing change to the market segment. You will be leading the charge to bring cutting edge tools to market and making a real difference every day to everyone in our food family.

We would like to develop a long term relationship with someone seeking full time work. This position requires on site work in our Edmonton, Alberta distribution centre. We will are not accepting applications for remote workers.

Job tasks

  • Implement new features and functionality
  • Deploy changes to development servers frequently
  • Model and implement intricate data structures using relational databases, primarily PostgreSQL
  • Create and work with templates with compliant HTML/CSS
  • Write complex apps following community development best practices
  • Implement and maintain the use of third party APIs
  • Stay on top of the latest technologies
  • Aid in architecting scalable solutions and performance-test applications to find and eliminate bottlenecks
  • Setup and run projects in production environments on Linux (Ubuntu-flavor) with Nginx, UWSGI, PostgreSQL, Celery, Redis and other tools frequently deployed alongside Django web apps

Qualifications

  • Experience using Python with a web framework
  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills
  • Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to operate successfully under tight deadlines and time pressures
  • Enjoys a fast-paced, creative, dynamic, challenging and team-oriented work environment
  • Basic knowledge of Linux with a strong aptitude to learn
  • Enthusiastic about learning

Bonus points

  • Experience building dynamic web applications in any language
  • Has a good grasp of Django development techniques or other MVC frameworks
  • Familiarity with JavaScript front-end frameworks (Backbone.js, AngularJS, React)
  • Experience with building and maintaining REST API applications
  • Experience with deploying / maintaining infrastructure using Amazon Web Services
  • Experience writing scripts to automate the mundane (Bash, Ansible, etc.)
  • Experience using Flutter

  • Familiar with test driven development practices
  • Deployment experience using Apache, Nginx + UWSGI, or other WSGI-based web servers
  • Familiarity with CSS pre-processors (LESS, SASS)
