Our Next Step.

It was 24 months ago that we bought our first delivery van. It was a rusty 1994 GMC Safari white cargo van that I found out at a lot in Spruce Grove for $2000. The brakes were spongy and the heater didn't work, but it was beautiful. I washed and waxed it, crumbled some of the rust off the bumper and put The Organic Box logo on the sides. Many of you probably remember that van bringing our first boxes to your door. It is amazing to me how far we have come in such a short time, and the support and growth we'vehadonly underlines to me the imperative of our mission and the relevance of what we are doing.

The Organic Box is about finding the best, locally grown, chemical and preservative-free, independently produced food available, and bringing it to our members. We want to know you and your food preferences and we want to build a relationship between your food and the people who bring it to you. Knowing where your food comes from and who produced it is part of our new food economy and we are driven every day to draw that connection and make a real difference to families in our city.

Why Food Relationships Matter to Us

Our new food economy has its bumps and challenges. For example, because Organic Food doesn't use the preservatives and other techniques developed to allow conventional produce to lastfour weeks in transit before arriving at the retail channel, we have to be fast getting the food from the field to your door. We have to predict (often months) in advance how much we will need of something and plan with the producer and our distribution partners to get it here exactly the day before your box is packedso you get the best, freshest food possible.Sometimes we get it wrong and this is when you might see an item ortwo missing from your box. However, we know that because we have a relationship with our members and our producers, we'll make it right for you and you'll get it in your next box or we'll giveyou a credit towards something else. Instead of having single, disconnected food purchases, you have a relationship with the team producing your food that we demonstrate to you in our commitment to always make you happy with your food.

Growing Again

Our warehouse is bursting. We can have as many aseighteen team members and five delivery vansworking in a very confined space at one time, and our cooler is crammed to the top with food every morning before we start our packing line. Its time to grow, and we have taken the challenge. In May we will be moving to a new 5000 square foot facility on the southside of Edmonton that will have much needed cooler, freezer and workspace forour team and your food. Everyone on our team is excited about the move, the space, and the 1000 square foot cooler we will have available to us. Our producers will be able to deliver more to us at a time, we will beable tocarry better inventory to manage shorted items, and our team will have a better work environment with natural light, high ceilings andmodern tools.

A Member, not a Customer

You are part of our team. Since the beginning, we have called our customers what they truly are - our members. You are a member of our foodfamily, just the same as thefarmers thatgrow for us,the people driving delivery vans, our warehouse team, and the front office staff. We say it a lot, but we mean what we say. You are important and itis your support that is driving the growth of our newfood economy inAlberta. Your purchases translate into hundreds of thousands of dollars injected into the Alberta Organic food network and that makes a huge difference to small producers inWestern Canada.

Havea Great Week!

Danny.

Featured Producers

Coconut Party!

We've been expanding our catalogue of organic coconut products over the past few months, and we're happy to announce one more new addition.
