Looking for Local Organic Veg? We've got it.

Get out your salad spinner this week. We've got loads and loads of local greens and they are loving the mix of sun and rain we've had this month. Eric has been busy busy busy out at Peas on Earth and we are looking forward to lots of good things from them. This week you have a choice ofmixed greens, spinach, radish, rhubarb, green onion, arugula, rapini, carrotsand bok choy from Peas on Earth. Sundog Organic Farm has the first crop of spinach coming this week, with lots of other good stuff in the ground too. Dawn from Sunrise Gardens has her ready-to-eat salad mixes too, plus wheatgrass and sprouts. Next week, we'll add spanish onions, kale, and dill. All locally grown, all organic, and all direct from the farmer to you. I'll be heading out to see James and Jenny at Sundog Organic Farm on Monday afternoon to pickup the spinach and take a look at the crop.

This is our third June since we opened The Organic Box and each year we are seeing more options available earlier in the year. This is exciting! It means we are moving the goalposts, increasing the production of our local organic farms and making a different to Edmonton's food economy.

Greens are good for you. Eat lots. This is the time of year to be a salad-aholic.

Havea Great Week!

Danny.
Founder, The Organic Box.

Featured LocalProducers

Sundog Organic Farm

James and Jenny Vriend own and operate Sundog Organic Farm located just outside of Gibbons, AB. About a 45 minute drive from our warehouse here in Edmonton. A couple of weeks ago Brody was out there to visit the farm and have a look around at the crops that are growing in the greenhouses and those that have already been planted in the ground. It is a fantastic piece of property with rich, dark soil and the late spring heat was bringing up healthy greens... of which we are already enjoying the delicious spinach! Going over the crop list with James we can look forward to many old standards and new surprises such as beans, celery, lettuce, carrots, cabbage, beets, potatoes, fennel, and leeks...

James, Jenny, and their 3 boys are absolutely wonderful. Not only can you buy their amazing produce from us... but they are also out and about at a few markets around town. Thank you so much for thesupporting local, organic food culture here in the Capital Region, and for supporting great families like the Vriends.

New Products!

We've been working hard to source out new, high quality, organic, and as local (Canadian) as possible products for you, our members... and some of these new gems are starting to roll in!

Next week we will have:

Organic Pecans
Organic roasted and salted Pistacchios
Organic roasted and salted Cashews
Organic roasted Pumpkin Seeds
Organic hulled Sunflower Seeds
Organic Thompson Raisins
Organic Shredded Coconut

In the coming weeks you can look forward to:

Crackers
Tofu
Baby Food
Canadian Nut Butters
More Granolas and kids cereals!
Salad dressings
Condiments
and lots more!!
