The Local Season is Getting Underway.
So exciting!
There can often be a misconception that as soon as the snow melts, the markets will be filled to the brim with lots of amazing local fruits and vegetables to enjoy. While we wish this were true, it takes several months to plant, grow, tend and harvest crops and the majority of Alberta produce isn't available until August and September. However, we believe we can do better. How we are Helping Part of our mission is to extend our local season and make it longer every year. When I reflect on our first season and compare it to now, I am gratified that we have worked so closely with our growers to produce more product sooner and to get more local stuff in your fridge earlier than ever. This week we have 21 different Alberta organic produce items, plus 12 from BC and 12 certified Fair Trade imports. In total, this makes up about 40% of all the fruits and vegetables we have on our list this week. Considering it is only the first week of June this is absolutely fantastic. I encourage everyone to explore the Weekly Produce Listing in our Organic Market to see how many different local products we have for you. Order lots, support our growers, and help us to continue to extend the season. Its worth it. Farm Tour Brody is our Product Manager, head buyer and custodian of our Instagram Account.
