WOW! In 2015, our Food Family gave over $50,000 in direct support to charities and other good causes in our city. That is an enormous amount of money and we are so excited by the success of our Beyond the Box program. This program supports dozens of initiatives in Northern Alberta targeted at aiding food security challenges for children and youth. Here are two highlights for this week. Giving YESS a Food Budget - Nourishing Futures The Youth Empowerment and Support Services has been a long time partner with The Organic Box. In August 2015, after years of unstructured and adhoc support, we realized that the YESS kitchen needed to move beyond only relying on food donations to provide the over 4000 of meals each month served to homeless and at-risk youth on our city. In partnership with our own members, we committed to $26,000 a year in direct support and challenged our membership to match our funds through donations of their own. Read More Here. If you haven't yet committed to supporting this program, you can simply add $0.25 to your weekly order and we will match it from our fund. Easy! Juice with Love Juice with Love is a partnership between The Organic Box, Glow Juicery and the Ronald McDonald House of Northern Alberta. The program provides raw juice and fresh fruits and vegetables for the families living at the house while their child undergoes life saving treatment at the Stollery Children's Hospital. Each week, we donate hundreds of dollars in fresh fruits and vegetables to the program for use in the kitchens. Read More Here. In February, our Food Family needs us just as much as in July. Your support makes it possible and we are so grateful for everything you do to make our food system work in Northern Alberta.
