Choosing Your Box

Summer is wrapping up and everyone is getting ready to go back to school. That means school lunches, healthy snacks and some mid-year resolutions. At The Organic Box we have worked hard to put together a catalogue of items beyond produce that you can order for yourself and your family that are sustainably produced by small enterprises, have organic ingredients or are certified organic, and have absolutely no GMO content at all.

Many of our members have challenges learning to use our website so this week we focused on putting together a guide for how to Choose Your Box.

Logging in and choosing your box

If you are scheduled for a delivery, you should receive a reminder email with links to your account page. Occasionally, email filters will prevent these from making it to your inbox. Not to worry, you can still easily log into your account from the Login page of our website and access your order by clicking on the My Box link.

There are two options to choose from: This Week and Every Week. This Week grants you access to your order for this week, and Every Week allows you to make changes to your standing order. Once you have found your order for the week, it is time to take a look at what is offered. Click on My Box -> This Week for a list of your box contents for the week.

Customizing Your Box

Clicking on each item will provide more information about the product. Use the +/- buttons or value field to change the contents of your box. Click the Submit Changes button to have the system recalculate the box value and generate a list of substitution items to add back into your box. We always recommend removing ALL of the items that you might not want to free up as much room as possible.

Filling Up Your Box

You will notice a drop-down menu appears with items to add into your order. Add items back one at a time until your box is full and the system stops prompting you to fill your box.

The Organic Market

Did you know that we carry way more than just produce? Queries on Facebook indicate that quite a few people don't know that we offer many non-produce items that can easily be added to your order each week.

Clicking on these links will show you all of the items we carry, as well as their prices and the opportunity to add them to your order this and every week. You can also search the directory by item. We are always adding to our catalogue (*New Products*), featuring items that we think you need to try (*Feature Items*) and products on special (*Specials*). We happily take product requests, so feel free to get in touch with us about the possibility of carrying your most desired ingredients!

When browsing through the Feature Items category, you might see an item you are interested in ordered - for example the new Sumatra coffee from NXT Roasters here in Edmonton. To add it to your order, fill in the amount field and click Add to Box. If you want to add something to every future order, tick the Every box box. Keep in mind that this will apply to all future orders that haven't been generated yet, and will not appear in this week's order unless the This week only box is ticked.

I have placed my order. Now what?

Your box is full and you have added everything that you can think of. We recommend taking one last look at your order page to confirm everything looks right. The bottom of the order will give you a summary of your charges for the week, but until the order is invoiced, it will be incomplete.

When your order window is closed, your order is invoiced and your payment is processed. We email you a copy of your invoice, and it is a good idea to look it over for any errors. If something seems wrong, please get in touch with us as soon as possible so that we can fix it before your order is delivered.

Many thanks to Abbie, our General Manager, for putting this quick guide together.

Havea Great Week!

Danny.
Founder, The Organic Box.

FeaturedProducts and Producers:

The Local Bounty

Our local season is really coming on! Which is fantastic news for everyone. Our amazing farmers and their workers have been super busy with harvest and these next couple of weeks are going to be even busier. It is important for all of us to realize how amazing our food system is, and how many people it positively affects. When we buy local salad greens, spinach, green onion, cauliflower, potatoes, carrots, bok choy, corn (the list goes on), we are supporting our local economies, and keeping these small family farms in operation (and for generations to come).

A huge thank you to Sundog Organics, Meadow Creek Farms, Sunrise Gardens, Peas on Earth Organic Farm, Sand Springs Ranch, Halwa Farms, Mans Organics, Shady Lane Berry Farm, Roys Raspberries, Sparrows Nest Organics, Just-A-Mere Farm, and all the other fantastic growers for feeding our tummies!

And ahuge thank you to YOU, our members, for caring about where your food comes from. Together we are all making great changes in our food structure... and that is awesome.

Corn Corn Corn

It's that time of year when the husks are full of juicy and sweet corn. It's so yummy you can almost eat this stuff raw. As we get ready to go back to school, it is a great time to stock up on corn on the cob for a long weekend hurrah!

Pickling and Canning

We are definitely flush with local goodies at this time of year. While many of us are probably getting sick of the amount of beans, peas, andcucumbers that we are receiving each week... it's important to remember that in a few weeks these beautiful items won't be available any longer! But... you can keep the good times rolling by getting into canning and checking out our new *Canning* section in The Organic Market. There you will find great deals on bulk veggies that are perfect for canning and pickling. Get bulk beets, carrots, potatoes, beans, and peas! Things like dill and peas also freeze incredibly well!

Instead of subbing those local goodies out of your box, keep them in there and store them well so that you can enjoy local veggies well into the winter.
