<p class="bodycopy"><span lang="EN-US">We take bananas very seriously around here.&#160; Not only do we love their sweetness, but we think that it is extremely important to support the banana growers in tropical countries, seeing as how we do not have the climate in Edmonton to grow bananas ourselves.&#160; </span></p> <p class="bodycopy"><span lang="EN-US">Barely a week has gone by since The Organic Box began that we have not had bananas available.&#160; Since we ripen our own bananas on site, we have definitely run into some challenges with offering the perfect bananas every week, but we are committed to buying ethical bananas and spreading the word to our Food Family about the importance of buying these bananas and ripening them at home (if needed).</span></p> <p class="bodycopy"><span lang="EN-US">You may have noticed that in recent weeks, the banana quality has been inconsistent.&#160; Word from our growers in Peru and Ecuador is that there are some new and difficult disease pressures that are wreaking havoc on crops.&#160; Pair this with the regular port strikes and the result is an inconsistent supply of bananas and poorer quality fruit.</span></p> <p class="bodycopy"><span lang="EN-US">This week, we are seeing a complete shortage of bananas, but we are on track to send bananas in boxes again next week.&#160; Please keep up with the banana news on our blog, where we will post updates about the bananas and answer many frequently asked questions about the bananas we cherish.</span></p> <p class="bodycopy"><span lang="EN-US">Love your bananas!</span></p>
