Dad started with two hives, mostly as a hobby, but time, determination, and a drive for excellence, saw his “hobby” grow into a large beekeeping operation. Back then we did it all; beekeeping, extracting, processing, packing, and selling at farmer’s markets.
In 1984, in order to enter retail markets, we created a separate company and the “Golden Acres” brand. The business continued to grow, until in 1992, the beekeeping side was sold. Three years later, we purchased the assets and accounts of Willms Honey Producers (Scandia, Alberta), increasing our market share in the private label packaging business.
As is true for many companies, growth often comes in the wake of adversity. 1996 saw our facilities completely destroyed by fire. All was lost, save a few charred pieces of equipment. Our commitment to this business and our customers drove us to rebuild. In only eight weeks we began packing again, in the start of what has become a completely modern, well equipped facility, that is Federally Inspected, and Kosher.
